Obituary for
Leroy M. Suppes
LeRoy Manuel Suppes, 77, of Greeley passed away at TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado on Sunday, June 10, 2018. He was born April 27,1941 to Emmanuel and Elizabeth (Brockel) Suppes on the farm in Prospect Valley.
LeRoy attended school through the 6th grade in Prospect Valley and then worked with his dad on the farms in Prospect Valley, Gill and Galeton. He loved meeting and talking with people everywhere he went, never forgetting a face. One of his joys in earlier years was to attend dutch hops and he certainly knew how to dance. Sometimes he would even get a pair of spoons and “play the spoons” with the band, with a grin from ear to ear.
After moving into town from the farm, LeRoy worked for the Greeley Country Club mowing the grounds and then for McDonald’s, making sure the buildings were clean. He was no longer able to work as his speech would sometimes disappear, but he would find a way to communicate. Even though he was developmentally slow, he was very smart and found ways to be self-sufficient.
He participated in bowling leagues for many years and watching WWF wrestling was a favorite pastime. He spent many of his later years assisting his parents at their home in Greeley. In 2008, LeRoy moved to assisted living at Bonell Good Samaritan and then to long term care. Some weekend days he would enjoy mowing Ed and Gerry’s lawns with their lawn tractors, creating smiles for everyone.
Survivors include his brothers; Ed (Nancy) of Johnstown and Gerry (Phala) of Greeley as well as four nieces, one nephew and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a reception following at the Adamson Reception Center.
The family would like to thank Bonell, NCMC and TRU Hospice for the care extended to LeRoy. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to “TRU Hospice” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Friends may leave condolences at adamsoncares.com.
