Community Grief Center
An initiative by Adamson Funeral Home was created to provide a grief program for those who have lost someone to death. Thanks to the support of Alan Wolfelt, Ph.D., a grief program was created with a curriculum grounded in his teachings on understanding grief.
Since its beginning, over 500 adults with a variety of kinds of death loss have participated in the program. As time passed we saw the need to expand the program to include children, teens and their caregivers. This need was larger than any we could provide alone, so an appeal was presented to the community to help create a community grief center. The idea was met with a very positive response from the community, and a board was formed to lead the development. Under the board’s leadership, a relationship with the Community Foundation was established to receive tax deductible contributions to support the center. In January 2016 the board received the center’s 501c3 non-profit designation. What began as Adamson’s grief program has now been handed over to the grief center for continued operation with no formal connection to the funeral home.

Based on a foundation of success and hope in the hearts of those who have joined the effort, the dream of a place dedicated solely to help grieving people due to a death has been born. The Community Grief Center continues to be governed by a Board of Directors that provides visionary leadership and works to ensure continuous funding from the community and other sources. The Center’s Executive Director provides the daily management of programs and operations. Dedicated and trained volunteers assist in the programs and activities.
