Fred Eifert
Fred Charles Eifert, 71, of Johnstown, CO passed away April 29, 2018 at his home. Fred was born January 24, 1947 in Salem, New Jersey to Howard and Marie (Wesemann) Eifert.

Fred grew up on a small farm in Elmer, New Jersey where he and his family raised vegetables, livestock, poultry, and honey bees. Fred often reminisced on fond childhood memories of growing up on a farm, flying in his father’s airplane trips to the ocean, and visiting the Poconos.

Fred attended Woodstown High School in Woodstown, NJ where he was an accomplished student, and track and field sprinter. Outside of school, Fred developed a deep interest for electronics and radio. Fred’s ambition led him to attended Colorado State University where he majored in Electrical Engineering. Fred Graduated from CSU in 1970 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

In the spring of 1970, Fred enlisted in the Colorado Army National Guard. Fred was stationed at Fort Gordon, GA where he completed his basic training and attended signal school. After training, he returned to Colorado where he settled in Boulder and began his career as an electrical engineer.

Fred’s career started at Electric Power and Equipment Company in Commerce City, CO. Fred’s interest in electronics engineering led him to Teknetics in Boulder. At Teknetics, Fred developed a power supply design that was utilized on the Space Shuttle. Fred later transitioned to Basic Telecommunications, a startup company in Fort Collins. There, Fred led a team to develop a phone designed for people with handicaps and disabilities. The phone was advanced for its time and earned Fred an award from Johns Hopkins University for, “enhancing the quality of life for handicapped people through the application of personal computing.” Fred later transitioned to a career at StorageTek in Louisville, CO, where he worked until 1999. In 1999, Fred moved to Segate Technology in Longmont, CO. Fred retired from Segate in 2009.

Fred met his wife Blanca (Salazar) in 1979. After dating two years, Fred and Blanca married in October 1981. In 1983, Fred became a father with the birth of his son Andrew, followed by Eric (1988), and Matthew and Mark (1994). Fred was a loving father and was passionate about his children and his family.

Fred’s spare time was consumed with many hobbies, which included printing, gardening, skiing, horseback riding, and carpentry. Despite many hobbies, Fred’s true passion was farming and agriculture. In 1994, Fred and his family relocated from Louisville, CO to a farm in Eaton, CO. Fred enjoyed raising livestock, wheat, alfalfa, and corn, while spending time with his family on their farm.

Fred is survived by his wife, Blanca; sons, Andrew, Eric, Matthew, and Mark; and sister, Helene. He is preceded in death by his father, Howard (December 2014) and his brother Eric (April 2014).
