Obituary for
Garry M. Kennedy
Garry Maurice Kennedy, 79, of Johnstown passed away November 25, 2017 under Pathways Hospice at North Shore Manor in Loveland. He was born August 26, 1938 to Dale and Effie (McIntyre) Kennedy in Haxtun, CO.
Garry attended schools in Dailey, CO grades 1 through 6, and then 7-12th grades in Fleming, graduating from Fleming High School in 1956. He then attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO.
Garry married his high school sweetheart, Virginia McMillan in February 1958 at St. Peters Church, Fleming, CO. They lived north of Dailey where Garry farmed with his father and they raised three daughters; Debra, Karen and Leanna.
The family moved to Longmont in 1967 when Garry became employed by IBM Boulder until his retirement in 1996.
Garry and Virginia moved to the Johnstown, CO area in 1995. They enjoyed traveling in their motorhome throughout the US, Canada and Mexico for many years. Through their travels they met many treasured friends.
Garry was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnstown and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.
Fishing was a great passion of Garry’s. He especially enjoyed fly fishing and tying his own flies. He also enjoyed hunting, tinkering in his shop, gardening and reading. He most treasured time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife Virginia of almost 60 years, daughters; Debra (Robert) Griffin of Ft. Lupton, CO, Karen (Bart) Tennant of Berthoud, CO, Leanna (Pat) Mastaler of Kennewick, WA; brother, Larry (Darian) Kennedy of Longbeach, CA; sister, Sharon (Fred) Finnigsmier of Sterling, CO; grandchildren; Cody Tennant, Rebecca, Samantha and Danielle Mastaler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 30 at Adamson with Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday, December 1 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnstown. Inurnment 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 4 at the Johnstown Cemetery.
