Obituary for Larry Tyner Shull

Larry Tyner Shull
Larry Tyner Shull of Irving, TX, formerly of Greeley, CO passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 in Irving.

He was born on September 26, 1935 in Sterling, CO to Dexter James and Helena (Miller) Shull. Larry grew up on a cattle ranch outside Keota, CO with his parents and two older brothers. He attended primary school in Keota and graduated from Grover High School in 1953. He attended one semester of college in Ft. Collins, CO and decided that was not for him. Larry was employed for a short time in a rock quarry as a blaster with his friend and mentor, Jay Apley. When that job ended, they worked together again as paper flower corsage makers. In 1957 he took work as an electrician's apprentice and it was a good fit, launching his career as a construction electrician. He retired from that industry in 1995.

Also in 1957, he met Geraldine L. Campbell (known by most as Jerry) and they were married that November. Together they had and lovingly parented a son and a daughter. When the kids were still toddlers, the family moved into a home on an acreage at the north end of Greeley and Larry and Jerry stayed there for 55 years, moving just last August to Irving, TX to be near their daughter and her family.

Larry was, in his own words, "gratefully sober through the grace of God and Alcoholics Anonymous" for the last 39 years of his life. He humbly sponsored many recovering alcoholics and each one was a precious blessing to him. He also worshiped and served God with great joy for 35 years at Hillside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine L. (Jerry) Shull of Irving, TX. His son Andy Shull and wife Bonita of Vernal, UT and his daughter Sandy Lowry and husband Bill of Irving, TX. Grandsons Tyner (wife Candice), Drew (wife Marti), Nathan, Jacob and Michael. Granddaughter Megan. Three great grandsons, four great granddaughters and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and both brothers, Clyde Shull formerly of Greeley and Dee Jay Shull formerly of Keota.

Viewing will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Adamson. A greeting time for family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.in Hillside Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall. A celebration of Larry’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Hillside Baptist Church, 2436 9th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80631. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634 to be divided equally between two non-profit organizations in Greeley that were dear to Larry’s heart.
