Obituary for Betty Jean Scott

Betty Jean Scott
Betty Scott, 91, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Grace Pointe Living Facility in Greeley, Colo. She was born in Galesburg, Ill. on Oct. 5, 1925, as one of four children of the late Leslie and Pearl (Fargusson) Wilbur.

At a young age, she moved with her family to Biggsville, Ill., and graduated from Biggsville High School.

On May 9, 1943 she married Dwight Scott of Burlington, Iowa. They remained in Biggsville for many years, where she was an accomplished homemaker and working partner in her husband’s business, Scotty’s Standard Service. Through his work, they got to travel overseas to several exotic locations, such as Morocco. The couple had four children. They were members of the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Upon retirement, they moved to Salida, Colo. and after a few years relocated to Cañon City, Colo., where she lived until 2007. She then moved to Greeley, Colo. to the Fox Run Senior Living Center. During her life she was especially known for her abilities at handwork; she was an exceptional seamstress and enjoyed crocheting. She later moved to creating plastic canvas miniature buildings, some of which were frequently on display at Fox Run and were admired by all.

Betty was preceded in death by her three brothers; husband, Dwight; and son, Rick Scott of Burlington, Iowa. She is survived by son, Les (Sue) Scott of Greeley; daughters, Sharon Scott of Riverside, Calif., and Terri Murphy of Yucaipa, Calif; and close family friend and long-time partner of the late Rick Scott, Julie Reusch; grandchildren, Sandra Quinn and Diane Oliver of Burlington, Iowa, and Matthew (Sarah) Scott of Ft. Collins, Colo. She also had seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted in the Chapel at Fox Run, 1720 60th Avenue, Greeley on Friday, April 14 at 10 AM, and presided over by Betty’s grandson, Pastor Matt Scott. Friends may leave condolences at adamsoncares.com.
