Obituary for Richert E. "Rich" Quinn Jr.

Richert E. "Rich" Quinn Jr.
Richert Edward Quinn passed away at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. on Jan. 11, 2017 following a brief illness. He was born April 18, 1941 in Evanston, Ill. to Richert and Mary Jane (Haughey) Quinn. The family later relocated to St. Louis, MO., where he graduated from St. Louis University High School and St. Louis University. He then went to the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he met and married Carol Goodman in 1966, and completed his medical degree in 1968.
Following graduation, Rich, Carol and son Kevin moved to Houston, Texas where he completed an internship at the Ben Taub Hospital affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine. One year later, the family moved to Denver where Rich completed a surgical residency at St. Joseph Hospital.
In 1973, the family, which now included daughter Shannon, settled in Greeley, Colorado where Rich began his general surgical practice at the Greeley Medical Clinic. Throughout the next two decades he cared for hundreds of patients, spent time as the Medical Director for the Greeley Medical Clinic, and was named Chair of the Department of Surgery at North Colorado Medical Center. He also served as Director of the Burn Unit at NCMC, a specialized care center he helped to create.
Rich was a respected member of several professional organizations. In 1985, he was elected President of the Colorado Medical Society. In 1986, he was appointed to the Board of Directors for Copic Insurance Company. He was also elected to the American Medical Association House of Delegates, serving from 1985 to 2011.
In 1994, he was asked to work for Copic Insurance Company as a Physician Risk Manager, later becoming Vice President of Risk Management. He retired from Copic in 2008.
His retired years were spent playing golf, traveling, attending professional sports events, and spending time with grandchildren; he especially loved watching them compete in sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kevin, and sister Judy. He is survived by wife Carol, son Kevin, daughter Shannon (Glen) Leffler, grandchildren Brayden, Reilly, and Delaney Quinn, Cullen Leffler, siblings Carol Deloof, John (Sandy) Quinn, and Terry (Joann) Quinn, many nieces and nephews, golfing buddies, and old friends.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, January 25 at 2 p.m. at the Greeley County Club, 4500 W. 10th Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the “United Way of Weld County” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
