Obituary for Bevis A. Hanna Jr.

On March 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren, Bevis Hanna, Jr. peacefully passed away.
Bevis was born on Jan. 24, 1928 in Slaton, Texas to Bevis & Myrtice Hanna. He was a devoted son, caring for both parents. He graduated from Slaton High School (the Slaton Tigers!) and was quarterback of the football team and point guard on the basketball team. He also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as well as on a cotton farm. He then served in the United States Army in Korea and went on to graduate from Texas Tech University in 1951 with an accounting degree.

Bevis worked as an auditor for Texaco. While in Ft. Morgan auditing Roy’s Texaco he met Gloria Covelli on a blind date. She became his beloved wife on April 11, 1964 and in 1965 and 1970 they became parents to Kris and Brad. He was their biggest fan, attending any and every event in which they participated including many, many games and concerts. Bevis and Gloria were married for 40 years before her passing on January 27, 2005. They were the most wonderful parents anyone could have asked for – we were blessed to have them. Bevis also worked for the Rural Electric Association in Ft. Morgan until his retirement.

He was a devoted father and grandpa, spending lots of time with his kids and grandkids. Bevis enjoyed big band music, playing golf, handball and tennis, watching all sports, playing poker and coin collecting. He also enjoyed having coffee with his buddies and spending time with his many friends. He was Grandpa Hanna to everyone he knew, had a keen sense of humor and was beloved by many.

Bevis is survived by his loving children Kris (Larry) Pierce and Brad Hanna, grandchildren; Jenn (Jordan) Kragor, Annie Pierce, Steven Pierce, Max Morales and Simone Morales and great grandchildren Lilly, Lexi, Hayes, Madix and Oliver. He was preceded in death by his father, Bevis, mother, Myrtice, wife, Gloria, sister, Gwen, and brother-in-law, Don.
