Obituary for Chauncey Harry "Bum" Carter

C.H. “Bum” Carter of Eaton, CO passed away January 9, 2019. He was born February 19, 1930 in Ault, CO to Chauncey and Ida Mae (McIntire) Carter. He grew up in Ault, CO and graduated from Ault High School in 1947. On January 18, 1947 he married Barbara M. Wykert in Fort Collins, CO.
He and Barbara moved to Eaton in 1959. Bum worked at Weller Lumber Yard and Farr Feed and Grain Elevator in Ault before establishing a business in Eaton doing accounting and taxes, retiring in 1999.
Bum earned his pilot’s license and had his own plane. He enjoyed dancing and traveling with Barbara, going to their cabin at Red Feather Lakes, and playing Cribbage and Poker. Most of all, he enjoyed time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was a founding member of the Eaton Country Club and a proud supporter of Eaton High School Athletics. Bum was also a CU Buffs, Broncos and Rockies Fan. He was a board member of the Weld Airport Board, was raised in the Congregational Church in Ault and very proud of his affiliation with A.A. and sobriety for 43 years.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter, Teresa Summers of Fort Collins; sons, Terry (Kathy) Carter of Pagosa Springs, CO, Ted (Sandy) Carter of Windsor, CO; grandchildren, Greg Summers, Brad Carter, Chris Carter, Jaime Price, Brandon Carter and TJay Carter; eleven great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Bum was preceded in death by his son, Tommy; his parents; and his sisters, Ida Mae Cozad and Mildred Anthony; and step brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2019 at The Community Room, 4650 W 20th Street. Life Celebration Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 14 at Adamson.
