Obituary for Jack Goble

Print
Jack E. Goble, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away peacefully, at his home in Greeley, November 19, 2018. He was born March 27, 1932 in Brighton and, with the exception of his time in the military, lived his entire life in Colorado. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Mitzel, on June 26, 1953. Diane passed away on July 6, 2012. Jack and Diane had four children, Kirk, Craig, Kevin, and Christi, all raised on the family farm near Keenesburg. They retired to Greeley in 2001.

Jack made it to 86 and in his words," I've had a long life, and a happy life, but now it's time for me to step aside." He grew up during the dustbowl days of the great depression. He learned about farming very young, as he and his brother were responsible for doing much of the farm work as their parents found jobs to barely make it. With the exception of his time in the military, Jack was involved in agriculture his entire life, and taught by example how we should, in the words of the FFA Creed "hold an inborn fondness for those associations which, even in hours of discouragement, I cannot deny."

Jack graduated from Prospect Valley High School in 1949. Following graduation, he had a short stint at Colorado A&M (now CSU) before enlisting in the Air Force. Jack was involved in intelligence gathering during the Korean War. His commitment was evidenced by the fact that he wouldn’t share details of his classified work until 50 years later when he was told by an Air Force General that what he’d done was no longer classified. After that, he loved sharing his experiences. As a proud Air Force veteran, Jack was a 64-year member of American Legion Post 180, serving as President multiple times.
Jack and Diane combined to provide a rural family environment that was pleasant as well a challenging, but also welcoming to friends and visitors alike. He and Diane were married in a garden wedding at the Mitzel farm in 1953, and returned to farm in partnership with Diane’s father, John, after completing his military service in 1954. It was here they raised their four children.

Jack served on local Coop boards, spent many years on the Southeast Weld Fair Board, and was awarded the Colorado FFA Honorary Farmer Degree. He was honest and loyal beyond all else; to his family, his country, and those with whom he dealt. He was fortunate enough to see friends and family near the end; to say his goodbyes, make his peace, and show to the end that humor and wit are rare qualities. He was a rare man, and he will truly be missed.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Eunice Goble, and his wife, Diane, brother Richard, and infant sister Maxine. He is survived by Kirk (Sally) of Greeley, Craig (Ginny) of Sacramento, CA, Kevin (Sheri) of Loveland, and Christi (Troy) of Eckley, CO; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; and Darla Goble, Denise Carlson, and Tim Furnish.
Funeral services will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 2 pm, on Thursday, November 29, 2018. Arrangements are being handled by Adamson Mortuary.
