Delbert Duane Schmidt, 84, of Fort Morgan, CO went to be with our Lord on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
He was born March 6, 1934 to Marie and Fred Schmidt, at his Grandparents home in Grover, CO, the first of three children. As a child Del helped care for the Schmidt Family homestead in Orchard, CO with his father and favorite Uncle George.
Del graduated from high school in Briggsdale in 1952. After a short military career in the Army he returned to the homestead to do what he loved. He married the love of his life, Ruby “Joanne” Fields in May 1959. With their two children they moved to Ft. Morgan in 1976 to farm. In 1981 they moved into town where Del worked for Johnson’s, Steele and Edwards Markets. He retired in 2007 to enjoy his family and friends. He spent several years being the proud driver of the V.A. van. Del never met a stranger.
He loved the Denver Broncos as well as the Colorado Rockies. He always enjoyed the holidays. Del was a member of Elks Lodge 1143.
Del is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joanne of Ft. Morgan; son, Dr. Michael Schmidt of Boulder, CO; daughter, Jodel (Brad) Schmidt McDowell of Boise, ID; grandson, Taylor (Logan) McDowell of Bend, OR; granddaughters, Morgan McDowell of San Diego, CA and Jordyn McDowell of Denver, CO; sisters, Evelyn Schwisow and Mary Ann Gablehouse, both of Greeley, CO; in addition to one nephew; four nieces; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Herr Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave., Ft. Morgan and 9-10 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at Adamson. Life Celebration Service will be at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
