Obituary for
Carol E. "Kelly" Portz
Kelly Portz, 76, of Johnstown passed away at her home on June 1, 2018 at 1:27 p.m. She was born December 27, 1941 in Hastings, NE to William Jennings and Rose Marie (Massing) Meddles.
She attended school at St. Cecilia in Hastings and a few years after graduating, met Chuck Portz. They married on June 2, 1962 and moved to Colorado the same day. Over the last 56 years, Kelly lived and worked throughout Colorado, the last being Johnstown.
She worked as a clerk typist at Rocky Flats for 15 years. Through the years, she touched many lives by providing dance instruction to children. She continued her artistic passion later in life by mastering crafts such as sewing and quilting.
While in Johnstown, she was an active member of the No Hatters Club and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was generous with her artistic talent by coordinating the Christmas and Easter decorations at the church.
One of her most rewarding moments came from her love of dance. After years of persistence, her husband, Chuck, finally learned “the dance of life” – two steps forward just one step back.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Robin Greer and Jennalyn (Yarek) Skiba; four granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sister, Florence Wenzinger; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Meddles and son-in-law, Rolland Greer.
Recitation of the Rosary 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 and Memorial Mass 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7 both at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1000 Country Acres Drive, Johnstown. Inurnment Johnstown Cemetery. Reception to follow.
