Obituary for Nancy L. La Follette

Nancy L. La Follette
Nancy Lou La Follette, passed away peacefully, at TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient’s unit in Greeley on April 16, 2018.
Nancy was the only child born to Frank and Bernice Fitzgerald, however, growing up with lots of cousins made it a loving family along with her dogs Spinner, and later, Tonya.
Nancy went to a one room schoolhouse in Shirley, Illinois from kindergarten thru the 8th grade. Starting 9th grade, she attended Heyworth High School, where she met the love of her life, Marvin. Marv always referred to her as his “pretty lady”. They dated thru high school and were married June 22, 1957. They had a daughter, Kathy Lynn, in September of 1958 and a son Thomas Michael in July of 1961.
Her little family moved to the wild, wild west in 1963, with a job transfer opportunity for Marvin with State Farm. Nancy loved camping in the mountains, golfing, and being actively involved in the Greeley Elks Lodge. She spent many hours on the golf course, swimming at the pool and dancing to the Milestones in the Penthouse with her family and wonderful friends.
Nancy started her career with School District Six, working as a librarian aide at Maplewood Elementary, and became an elementary school secretary at Jefferson Elementary. She opened Shawsheen Elementary and then moved to Scott Elementary, ending her career at MIS in May of 1992 after 24 years. Nancy loved kids and working in elementary education gave her such joy. She would decorate for every holiday and dressed to match.
After her retirement, Nancy continued to meet with her retired secretaries group, bowl, golf in the Highland Hills Ladies Association, play poker on line as well as loving a good Texas Hold’em tournament. Marv and Nancy enjoyed going to Las Vegas, where she was greeted by the concierge at Paris by her first name. She later became known as the “Silver Fox”, for her naturally silver white hair, a nickname given to her by her grandson. Her trips to Hawaii were some of her best memories, loving the beach and the ocean and the wonderful fruity drinks.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Marvin; daughter, Kathy (Rob) Lewis; son, Thomas; grandchildren, Corin (James) Womer, Breanne (Brad) Kyger, and JJ (Nichole) Buxman. Also carrying on her legacy are her great grandchildren, Savannah and her fiancé Cody, Robert, Delaney, Braylon, Brex, and Kayla, as well as her great, great granddaughter, Natalie born April 10, 2018.

Nancy’s life will be celebrated with an Open House on Saturday, April 21st from 11:00-1:00 at Adamson, with a lunch provided of her favorite foods. She would love you to stop by for a visit, good food and memories of great times, celebrating her going home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to “TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado” in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home or online at www.HospiceOfNorthernColorado.org.
