Obituary for Ricardo Salazar

It is with great sadness that the family of Ricardo Salazar announce his passing. Ricardo Salazar, 67, of Greeley passed away suddenly on April 10, 2018 at his home. He was born September 19, 1950 in Cananea Sonora, Mexico to Santos and Petra (Ramos) Salazar.

Ricardo started his long career in the radio industry as a DJ in Mexico at the age of 16. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Mexico City he began working for local radio stations.

On May 2, 1972 Ricardo married his love, Belinda Castro. They came to the United States in 1978, settling in Tucson, AZ, they then moved to Los Angeles where Ricardo expanded his skills by working as a radio station consultant. In 1997, Ricardo’s dream came true when he founded Greeley Broadcasting Corp, which sprouted the multiple Tigre radio stations. The Salazar family moved to Greeley in 1998 in support of the new venture.

Ricardo enjoyed being in the outdoors, but mostly enjoyed spending time at his cabin in the mountains of Northern Co. Ricardo also enjoyed hunting, woodworking was also a favorite pastime of his. He loved sports; basketball, baseball, football and most recently golfing. Ricardo was a member of the Hispanic Chamber.

Ricardo is survived by his wife of 46 years Belinda of Greeley; children, Belinda (Thomas) Salazar-Hoopes, Lindsay Salazar (Mark Wadsworth) all of Greeley, Ricardo Jr. (Wendy) of North Carolina and Ernesto (Meagan) of Thornton. 10 grandchildren; Alec, Lauren B, Ricardo III, Skyler, Adalynne, Mason, Victoria, Maya, Noah and Dante. Siblings; Mercedes, Sergio, Maria, Alberto, Victor, Hector, Sonia and Ramon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Ernesto Castro, daughter Brandy Salazar and granddaughter Sophia Wadsworth.
