Obituary for
Harold Warehime
Harold Halsey Warehime, 76, of Greeley passed away February 28, 2018, in Greeley. He was born September 7, 1941, the ninth of twelve children, in Snyder Colorado to Arthur and Grace (Reynolds) Warehime.
His family moved to Weld County as a child and attended school in Beebe Draw, Hazelton and graduated from College High School (now University High).
Harold became chronically ill in 1964 at the age of 22 and spent many years hospitalized. His life story encouraged the Colorado Legislature to pass HB 18-1326 which provided housing, medical and home care supports to allow individuals who have lived long term in institutional settings to live in the community of their choice.
In April 2017 he moved into his apartment supported by his nieces Menda Ide, Rachel Warehime, great nieces and nephews, Kendall Smith and her husband Ryan, Christopher Warehime (his roommate and co-conspirator), David and Jetta Houchen. He also enjoyed time with, sang with and challenged his personal care attendants and friends, Sandra, Niki, Rose, Alex, Brandi, LoniAnn, Lynn, Leann and Carey.
Harold had a beautiful singing voice and loved the music of Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. He loved to harmonize with his caregivers and nieces and would have tears in his eyes while singing old hymns. He loved animals, children, trips to the barber, walks in his neighborhood, and “dates” with his niece for “coffee shakes”.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. Harold is survived by two brothers, Stanley (Donna) and Blair (Kay) Warehime, as well as several aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, including Menda (Clinton) Ide, his favorite niece and guardian.
Memorial Service for Harold will be Friday, June 29 at 1:00pm at the Vineyard, 1015 9th Ave, Greeley.
